International Symposium on Exotic Nuclei (EXON-2006) is scheduled from 17 July to 24 July 2006 in Khanty-Mansiysk (Russia, west Siberia).
Khanty-Mansiysk (area - 250.93 sq. km, size of the population - 55.7 ths. people) is a town situated 2040 km from Moscow . This very beautiful and exotic place is in the north of Russia. The basic part of the Khanty-Mansiysk District is occupied by the taiga. Among swamps and forests there are more than 25 lakes. The two greatest rivers of Russia – the Ob and Irtysh Rivers flow through the territory of the District.
Today the town of Khanty-Mansiysk has the features of a capital – it is a center of active business life. The Khanty-Mansiysk district is the main oil and gas-bearing area in Russia and one of the largest oil-extracting world regions.
In spite of future changes in the legislation, the Khanty-Mansiysk District is keeping favorable investment climate. The area is saturated with all proper amenities – hotels, sports objects, etc. A beautiful District Rehabilitation Medical Center has been opened. A Center of Arts for Gifted Children of the North, a Skiing Center, where the World Biathlon Junior Championship was held in 2001 and 2003, a Center of Applied Art & Crafts of the Northern People, State District Museum of Nature & Man, and a unique Park-Museum under Open Sky have been created and are successfully functioning.
Domestic and foreign companies and firms have opened their representative agencies at the international airport in Khanty-Mansiysk. The town has up-to-date communication facilities to connect with foreign and CIS countries.
In the town of Khanty-Mansiysk many educational institutions are functioning: the National Medical School - the oldest in the District, Medical college, Pedagogical college, Economic college, and college of Arts, commercial educational institution "Professional and Technical School", secondary professional school. The system of branches of higher educational institutions was developed and expanded.
In 2001, a new educational establishment of higher education – the Yugorsky State University of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation was created.
The town of Khanty-Mansiysk has its own unique features: it has its specific architecture, it is surrounded by forests, and the meandering Irtysh River adds to its beauty. Although a small town, it has a great history and great perspectives.
In March 2006 in the Nordic Ski centre (Khanty-Mansiysk) biathlon competition IBU Grand Prix will again take place. At the same time Russian Biathlon Championship will be held. Preparation to this event has already been started.
On the Congress 2004 in Bulgaria that was taking place 22-25 September 2004 in Varna Russian Biathlon Union sent in a name of Khanty-Mansiysk as a candidate for Congress 2006. Majority of votes were given to our town and it was decided that IBU Congress 2006 would be taking place in Khanty-Mansiysk from 29 July till 2 August 2006
